Ebrahim “Ebe” Mostoufi-Moab, beloved husband, adored father, and cherished friend passed away from complications of cancer on March 16, 2024, in Plantation, Florida. Ebe was born in the sunny and warm city of Masjeed Soleiman, Iran on October 1, 1943. He spent his childhood and young adulthood in Shiraz, city of flowers, songbirds, and poets, where he solidified his love of learning and scholarly pursuit of knowledge.
Ebe’s early years were shared with his siblings, creating a beautiful Persian tapestry filled with memories, laughter, and overcoming challenges from the early loss of his loving father, Shokrullah Mostoufi-Moab, a chemist educated in England who passed away suddenly from a heart attack while alone at home with the 13-year-old Ebe. This experience would eventually shape Ebe into a compassionate and outstanding cardiologist who always went above and beyond to help humans in need.
Ebe graduated at the top of his medical school class from the University of Pahlavi Shiraz in Iran. He completed his residency and fellowship in cardiology at the University of Miami, FL. His unparalleled dedication to learning and quest for knowledge earned him early accolades that continued throughout his medical career. His expertise guided numerous friends, colleagues, and patients as a valued and brilliant cardiologist who readily had answers to medical questions. Ebe was a dedicated physician and compassionate healer who always went above and beyond to care for his patients and those who reached out to him in need. He was generous with his time and gentle with his bedside manners. Above all, he loved teaching his medical profession to trainees and students.
Ebe met and married Shokoufeh Hampzepour, a European trained physician known for her intellect, personal strength, and beauty. Together, they built a life full of energy, adventures, and joy that spanned several continents, the Iranian revolution, and war with Iran and Iraq. They immigrated back to the United States in 1988 in the hopes of rebuilding a new life that would allow their only child, Sogol, to reach her potential in both freedom and education.
A quiet and serious man, Ebe had a legendary sense of humor. He shared a joke or two on every occasion, making those around him laugh with joy and ease. He even used his sense of humor as a medicine to calm his patients and build rapport. Humor was his weapon to fight challenges, obstacles, and difficulties he had to overcome in life. Ebe was a pillar of strength for his family, colleagues, and members of the community. He was a scholar of Persian poetry, literature, and politics who was always surrounded by books, journals, and papers. More than anything, he cherished reading as well as spending time with dear friends discussing literature and politics while drinking well-made Persian tea!
Ebe’s memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Shokoufeh, and his dedicated daughter, Sogol, a dual boarded pediatric oncologist and endocrinologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
