I am saddened by this huge loss. We were friends many years ago. My thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and loved ones.

I was so sad to discover this tragic news today. I was rejected in writing Dave a text message looking for some advice. He trained me up in this Bonanza and helped me upgrade it beginning in 2016. He was always a great resource to me and generous with his time and advice. I offer my condolences to his family. 

In a huge effort I traveled to the USA chasing a dream, that country that I had never visited was more wonderful than I expected. Yes, aviation impressed me, but even more so the energy of people who encouraged me to continue the effort for that pilot's certificate. I had 2 checkrides with Dave, after the first (IR) I was so tired that I was determined to return to Uruguay but he told me: "Juan now you must pass the commercial checkride to later get a job" I'm very tired Dave I've only 2 weeks, He saw me direct to my eyes and told me: "You can do it"
I remember his words on the day of that checkride: "Juan, today is your day, today you will pass your checkride and you will be a commercial pilot, losing is not an option"
I returned to Uruguay even though I didn't want to, Dave was and is one of those great reasons why I want to return, I wanted to see you again Dave and introduce you to my family, tell you: I made it, here I am and largely thanks to you. I keep trying, it's not easy. Surely God has you in a privileged place, thank you for encouraging me to continue, thank you for your words. I wish you a great rest.

I didn’t know Dave very well, but I still won’t hesitate to say that he was something of a personal hero for me.  He stuck up for me, a young female pilot whom he had only met twice and was about to lose her medical certificate, putting his own reputation on the line to vouch for me when no one else would.  Because of him, I’m able to fly.  Thank you, Dave, for keeping my dream alive.  I hope to one day be able to help and inspire other pilots the same way you have me.

Thank you for your friendship, insight and enlightened instruction.  Your use of humor made me feel more human, not an idiot.  You are a gift to us all and the aviation community in particular.  Your love of Roy O, his music and mutual RC experience no doubt helped propel you to the level of excellence with which you pursued everything.

I never met Dave , but many students I worked with did a checkride with him and they all said he was extremely thorough but so kind and enjoyed sharing his experiences.  RIP Dave and my condolences to the family.  Dave had an astounding and positive effect on aviation in South Florida. 

A great pilot, teacher, and examiner.  He was one of the greatest - a true GOAT!  Rest In Peace Dave - you touched more lives than you will know.

We remember when he came back from work one night.  He knocked on our door with flowers in his arms.  I knew they were for Jane, (he always got her flowers), but jokingly I said "thanks Dave you shouldn't have".  His answer was "they are for you", and didn't want to take them back.  He was always a gentleman.  May you rest in peace, dear friend.
