Mr. Daniel Thomas “Thom” Carr III, age 67, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Holy Cross Hospital. At the time of Thom’s passing he was in the hearts of those he loved the most.
Born on May 9, 1952 in Princeton, West Virginia, Thom was the son of the late Daniel Thomas Carr, Jr. and Laura Juanita (Pack) Carr. Thom was raised and educated in Princeton, West Virginia and attended West Virginia University. On November 9, 1995, Thom was married to J. Michael Heider DDS, and they were blessed with a relationship of 35 years.
Thom was a real estate agent with Atlantic Properties International. An accomplished, pianist, the Pride Center noted that he used his talents to entertain, uplift, and inspire, while donating his time and skills to a variety of communities. He released an album of his hits “Broadway & Beyond” in 2014, reviewed as a “dazzling collection of twenty-three piano solos”. Thom and J. have been active in the LGBT community as members of the Founders Circle at the Pride Center at Equality Park. They have also been longtime supporters of Equality Florida, a statewide LGBT rights organization whose members’ message reads: “Today, we mourn the loss of Thom Carr, one of our first and most stalwart supporters in Fort Lauderdale. We will never forget Thom’s generous spirit, kindness, and support from the earliest days of our organization.
Those who knew and loved Thom resound the same refrain: “He was a beautiful force of light and life; a beautiful smile on his face; kindness, consistency, unconditional friendship; he was a ray of light and is now an angel; a grand patron and soulmate; one man you can always count on; We love you; he always made me smile and was a beautiful soul who touched my heart; his spirit will forever light the skies with the brightest of sparkles; he had a kind word and twinkle in his eye; a bright light on this earth; a genuinely kind hearted, non-judgmental man; his beaming smiles were a beacon of vibrant energy and the joyful moments of his love and light brought warmth, energy, and laughter to all”.
“Go forth and shine Thom!” You will be a star in our heaven and always in our hearts!”
Thom is survived by his spouse, J. Michael Heider, DDS; and his sister, Suzi Carr of Los Angeles, California.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and out of respect to the wellbeing of Thom’s family and visitors, a Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at a later date and time.
