We mourn the loss of André Luc Laramé, who passed away on August 30, 2023. André was born on November 11, 1930, in Léogane, Haiti, the seventh of nine children. His parents, Murat Laramé and Mélina (Absence) Laramé instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep faith in God. At age 20, André moved to Port-au-Prince, where he lived with his brothers Simon and Felix Mérès before settling in his own home.
André worked for 27 years at the Haitian American Sugar Company (HASCO), where he was known for his tireless dedication to his job and his community. In 1972, André moved to the Antilles, where he explored new cultures and lived in Saint-Martin and Guadeloupe. He then moved to New York in 1985 and lived with his brother Felix Mérès and his niece Odette. He married Marie C. (Josema) Larame and they have been together for over 31 years.
André was guided by his unwavering faith throughout his life and shared it generously with those around him. He will always be remembered for his dedication, kindness, and commitment to his values. He loved to sing and was part of his church choir for over 20 years.
André left behind his wife Marie C. Laramé, his four children: Solange Murat, Hérold Laramé, Charles Murat, and Imène Murat, his step-children Jean Daniel Michel and Rudy Josema, 15 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews: Marie Euphrasie Laramé, his brother Felix Mérès Laramé, Rosine Laramé, Marie Rosalie Laramé, Albert Laramé, Irène Laramé, Margarette Laramé, Calleb Laramé, Lamartine Laramé, Paul Laramé, and Ethene Laramé.
