She was born on May 2, 1919 in Edmonton, AB. and lived in Fort Frances for as long as she could remember. She worked for both the Town of Fort Frances and Bell Canada as a telephone operator until retiring at the age of sixty. She enjoyed curling, winning many bonspiels. She hated bowling but did it anyway for the exercise and was a life time member of the Royal Purple. Shirley loved to go out and eat and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel and has been all over the world. She was a snowbird for many years, spending winters in Hawaii. Family was very special to her and she adored her granddaughters and great grandchildren.
Shirley leaves behind her daughter Judy Thompson (Michael Romslo); granddaughters Tammy Taggart (Tom Toratti) and Stephanie Heinle (Tim); great grandchildren Robert Taggart (Kendall) all of International Falls, MN, Janelle Taggart of St. Paul, MN, Chev Arnold of Duluth, MN, Allen and Isaac Johnson of International Falls, MN; sisters Wilma Redford (Ron) of Fort Frances and Betty Toews(Jack) of Sherwood Park, AB; sister-in-law Edie Brown of Brantford, ON as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Violet Brown; siblings Myrtle Armstrong (Jack), Alvin Brown (Shirley), Leo Brown (Alice), Stanley Brown (Doris), Douglas Brown, Lonnie Brown (Irene), Toots McConnell (Gord), Vivian Fredenburger (Eric), Charles Brown(Myrtle) and Clarence Brown (Evelyn) and granddaughter Janelle Shirley Rognerud..
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Shirley’s life will be held in the spring.
