It is with profound sorrow that the family of Shane Kelly announces his passing on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at his home.
Shane Austen Kelly was a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend to many. He was an avid outdoorsmen that loved hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and learning about the different species of plants and their medical uses. He would go on 4 wheeler rides and long hikes with his bow. He loved to show up his dad with his skill with a rifle.
He was a young man who followed traditional values. He was always stopping by his grandparents place to help with what they needed, he would help in his community any way he could. No matter what he was doing or where he was he would always make sure his family was taken care of.
Shane had many passions which included his love for music and was self-taught on the piano, guitar and flute. His parents would always love hearing him play, he loved his online gaming with his friends and could be heard screaming and laughing all hours of the night, he would visit his uncle Vin where they would spend hours dicing, his biggest passion was collecting and talking about his many knives he would buy.
The things he loved most was visiting with his family and friends where he would tell stories about what was going on in his life, joking around in the kitchen with his little brother Seth, playing with his dog Buck, and his two cats Purrsi and his beloved Daisy, he loved to relax and spend time laughing and joking with his partner Latisha Kokopenace. They would spend time riding around in the vehicles where he taught her how to drive and also he spent a lot of time as a passenger on the 4 wheeler while Latisha drove. He loved to cook with her and would always tell his parents about the chicken curry they had made which was his specialty meal.
As a young man who loved the outdoors, he was currently taking an eco-tourism course at Sault Ste Marie College. He was able through this course to participate in the things he loved such as camping, fishing, and also learning new skills such as skiing, and rock climbing. He was also able to obtain his canoe certificate through this course.
He leaves behind his parents Clayton and Bonnie, his brother Seth and his baby sister Clairebear, his partner Latisha Kokopenace, his grandparents Vince, Diane, Joseph, Kathleen, Gus, his aunts and uncles, Vinnie (Jenny), Riel (Sheila), Lil Joe, Eileen (Adrian), Kevin (Desyrae), Edmund and numerous cousins and friends.
Shane is predeceased by Great Grandma Dorothy who he called Big KooKoo, his uncle Edward and his aunty Kelli.
A traditional ceremony was held in his home community of Onigaming by his family. A public memorial feast will be held once his community is allowed to gather together.
The pallbearers were Dallas Bell, Bruden Kelly, John Tompkins, Koltyn Copenace, Edmund Allan and Seth Kelly.
The honourary pallbearers were Vince Kelly Jr., Lil Joe Letander, Jordan Kelly, Brody Allan, Karsen Copenace and David Copenace.
