It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Adams, Pizhew dodem, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Rick was born on December 28, 1951 in Fort Frances, Ontario, and lived his life on Couchiching First Nation.
Rick worked in the forest industry for many years. Later in life, he began a career as a youth counsellor, first with IVIK youth services and then with Weechi-It-Te-Win Family Services where he retired in 2019. He was passionate about teaching Indigenous youth the value of the land.
Rick is predeceased by his parents Percy and Ethel Adams; siblings, Terry (Big Z) and Jan Adams, and Sandy Calder; son, Terry (Zee) Adams, and niece, Amy Adams. Rick is survived by Debbie, Ryan, Tricia, and Ziigwaan. He also leaves behind his aunt Gladys Guimond; his siblings Calvin (Heiki), and Al (Corrine); his nephews and nieces Mike (Michelle), Rob (Venus), Rich, Gary, Dale, Brittney, Melissa Calder, and Nathan Calder, and the rest of his extended family in Couchiching and in Minnesota.
A small gathering for family and friends will be held on September 3rd at Couchiching First Nation.
