She was born March 31, 1944 in Fort Frances to the late Roy and Eldrid Tighe, where she grew up, attended school and met the love of her life, Ray. Her and Ray were united in marriage on May 4, 1963 and experienced 51 wonderful years together.
As a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and best friend to many, she always enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed curling and was an active member of the Fort Frances Curling Club for many years before her and Ray decided to spend their winters in Yuma, Arizona. Being happily retired from the Fort Frances Credit Union since 1993, she always looked forward to travelling south to escape the cold and to spend time with the many new friends they had met over the years. She took pleasure in quilting and crafting, and loved spending time in the great outdoors camping, fishing and hunting. Leslie was also a dedicated Saskatchewan Rough Riders fan, and always wore their colours proudly while watching their games. However, nothing surpassed the enjoyment she got, while being surrounded by all her family and friends, or double-skunking Ray in a game of cribbage.
She was predeceased by her parents Roy and Eldrid Tighe, father-in-law, Alex Armit and mother-in-law, Leona Armit.
Leslie leaves to mourn, her husband Ray, son Rodney (Darlene) Armit, daughters, Sandra (John) Holt, and Shelley Armit (Jason), sisters Joan (Tom) Hailey and Donna Easton, and brother Greg (Susan) Tighe; grandchildren, Rachel (Dustin) Hohn, Carly (Kevin) Whalen, Rebecca Armit (Chris), Kimberly Holt, Katelyn Armit, Jarred Taylor, and her very special great grandchildren, Hope McMillan, Samantha Hohn and Landon Whalen, as well as, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ontario with Fr. Victor DeGagne officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be Leslie’s grandchildren, Rachel, Carly, Rebecca, Kimberly, Katelyn, Jarred and her great grandchildren, Hope, Samantha and Landon.
