Bud was born on the original Cain farm in Devlin on August 4, 1919. While stationed in Winnipeg at the beginning of WW2, he met Oda Classen, the love of his life and they married on May 22, 1943. Bud continued to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces in the Aleutian Islands and Europe until the end of the war.
Bud returned back to the family farm where he successfully established one of the largest cattle farms in the Rainy River District. He also spent his early years as an electrician and a plumber.
Bud treasured spending time with his family. He also enjoyed Sunday afternoons on the local lakes and walking in the fields amongst his cattle.
Bud was actively involved in his community in many leadership roles with membership in the Guthrie United Church, Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association, Rainy River Federation of Agriculture, Stratton Cattle Sales Barn, 4H Club and the local school board.
He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Matilda Cain, his two sisters, Lois Judson and Marjorie Hudson, and sons Rod, Randy and Charles.
Bud is survived by his loving family including wife Oda (nee Classen) and his children Norman (Nancy), Carolyn Potter (Loren), William (Doris), Edward (Lori), Cindy Kaemingh (Arnold), Heather Kitzul (Gord), as well as 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and special extended family Stuart Williams (Marian) and their children.
