Grace was born on September 29, 1934 in Devlin, Ontario to Joe and Jessie McCoy. She lived in the Devlin area as a young girl. She was united in marriage to George Roy on April 21, 1954 and they settled together in Atikokan to raise their family. As the children grew and left the house she took a clerking job at Monty’s Jewelry, where she worked for many years before retiring. She was an active member of the Atikokan community. She curled, serving as an executive for the Atikokan Curling Club, was a member of the Riverview United Church, taught Sunday school and was a C.G.I.T leader. Grace and George loved spending their summers at the cabin on Perch Lake, fishing and gardening, while winters were spent travelling. After moving to Fort Frances in 1997 she was a member of the Knox United Church.
She was predeceased by her husband George on July 23, 2010; parents Joe and Jessie McCoy; brothers Ross and Hugh (Katie) McCoy; brother-in-laws Gil (Shirley) Stickelmaier, Jack McConnell and Dennis (Myrtle) Roy.
Grace leaves behind her children Raymond (Kim), Michael (Grace), Richard (Evelyn) and Barbara (Dave); special niece Wanda; grandchildren Jordan, Lindsay (Joe), Kristi-Lynn (Trevor), Allison, Krystal (Jason), Tiffany (Doug), Rita (Dan), Adam (Mackenzie), Aaron (Lexie), Tressa, Chad, Kellianne (Storm) and Chris (Heidi); numerous great grandchildren; siblings Gordon (Lynne) McCoy, Marilyn (Ken) McKinnon, Sandra McConnell and Debra (Rob) Pihulak as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ontario with Reverend Barbara Miller officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
