Grace passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Rainycrest Long Term Care Facility with her daughters Julie and Patti by her side.
Amazing Grace, as she was affectionately known by her family, was born in Barwick, Ontario, May 21, 1921 (the first of six children) to John and Clara Bell McCutchon.
As a young girl the family of 8 moved to Fort Frances, and at one point owned and operated “Macs” convenience store, now known as Ski’s.
Grace was well educated for her gender and generation. After graduating High School, she attended Teachers College in North Bay. When Grace returned to Fort Frances, she temporarily lived at the Greenier farm, north east of Emo, and was teaching briefly in a small local school. During the war Grace helped with the war effort by working at a munitions plant in Sorel, Quebec.
Grace met Merdo Krawchuk in Fort Frances and they married on April 3, 1951. They made their home in his families’ homestead on Armit Avenue in Fort Frances, across from his brother Morris. Grace and Merdo welcomed two daughters, Julie Ann born in 1957 and Patricia Joanne in 1966.
When the girls where young, Grace worked at the Makabi Inn and later at the MTO on Mowat avenue. She enjoyed the work and spoke highly of her colleagues. Grace retired in 1989.
Grace loved spending time with her family, loved to read, do crosswords and go on road trips with her sister Pat. Her favourite trip however was a trip to England with her two daughters and later to Scotland and France with Julie.
Grace acquired her first cell phone at the age of 80. This was a welcomed link to the family and she kept it with her always. We give thanks to the many helpful staff at Rainy Crest for helping her to send and receive our messages and well as their great care throughout her 4 years with them .
Mom will be greatly missed by her daughter Patricia Anderson and husband Brad, grandchildren Graham and Rachel and daughter Julie Krawchuk and husband Hugh Ralph.
Grace is predeceased by her husband, Merdo Krawchuk, sister Pat Del Ben and brothers Don, Ken, Bob and Jack McCutchon.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a celebration of Graces’ life will be postponed until friends and family can gather this spring.
If friends so desire, in memorium donations can be made to the Fort Frances Public Library, 601 Reid Avenue, Fort Frances, ON P9A 2Ps.
