Fern "Ma" Lawrence Thompson

It is with great sadness that the family of Fern Thompson announces her passing on Monday November 15, 2010 at the LaVerendrye General Hospital.

Fern was born on November 13, 1933 in Sioux Lookout, ON to Harold and Jessie Lawrence. She worked for many years at the LaVerendrye Hospital. She always had a pocket of peppermints for her fellow employees. Fern enjoyed spending time with her daughter and her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved their time together. Fern had a close bond with her son-in-law Len; from the first time Donalda brought him home, Fern thought he was something special.

She leaves behind her daughter Donalda and husband Len Allen; grandsons Mason and Dawson; sister Etta Bickell and husband Ray; brother Harry Lawrence and wife Verle; nephews Donald, Doug, David and Darin and their families. She will be missed by good friends Mike and Mary Lou and Larry and Rita. Fern had a large extended family of close friends and adopted kids who called her “Ma”, she will be greatly missed by all of them.

Fern was predeceased by her parents Harold and Jessie and her partner of 40 years Eldon “Pa” Thompson on November 12, 2009.

A celebration of Fern’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 after 1 p.m. downstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 in Fort Frances, Ontario. Please join the family and share stories and memories of Fern, and have some laughs in her honour.
