He was born June 30, 1932 in Box Alder, Ontario to Wesley & Erma (Hughes) Barker. He attended school in Box Alder and the Fort Frances High school before finishing his education at the Sharon Bible School in North Battleford, Sk. On October 1, 1955 he was united in marriage to Winona “Nonie” Lennox. They settled on the family farm to raise their 3 sons. He was an avid reader and had a fascination with machinery. He and Nonie enjoyed their annual camping trips with both friends and family. He worked at the Fort Frances Paper Mill for 32 years.
Delbert set a wonderful Christian example and was a great provider for his family. He was an Elder at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Devlin, whom he cared for like a second family.
He was predeceased by his parents Wesley and Erma; wife Nonie; daughter Wendy, in infancy; stepmother Helen and brother David.
Delbert leaves behind his sons Edward (Ted) and wife Cheryl, Keith and wife Lise and their children Billy and Mandy (Sam), Joseph (Joe) and Lisa and their children Trista (Bryden), Tyler (Chelsey), Trevor and Scott; 8 great grandchildren; sister Ruth and husband Paul Hyatt; brother Gary Barker and wife Susan; sister-in-law Evelyn Barker as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON with Dan Tausendfrende and Terry Hoffman officiating.
The honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Barker, Bill Barker, Ken Barker, Duane Tausendfrende and Jurgen Schmutz.
