Today we gather to honor the life and memory of Mr. Russell Eliot Scott, a beloved brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend. Russell Eliot Scott, was born in Columbia, SC on September 2, 1961 to the late Mr. James A. Scott Sr. and the late Mrs. Marie C. Scott. In 1962, the family moved to New York and settled in the borough of Queens.
Russell attended Public School 143, Junior High School 73, and then Flushing High School where he loved sports and participated in track and field, and football. He attended John Jay College, The City University of New York in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Law and Justice.
As a child Russell love to have fun, he had a good sense of humor and was a practical joker. As he grew so did his love for motorcycles, boats, cars and travel. At the age of 18, Russell proudly received his first gym membership with Jack La Lane, also known as Bally's Total Fitness. He also encouraged everyone he knew and met to participate in some sort of exercise regimen.
After high school Russell held a number of jobs which included working nights at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center as a patient attendant. During the day he worked in sales, doing photography, and even operated a yellow cab. Russell was always looking for ways to have multiple-streams of income. He had the desire to seek employment with room for advancement and a great retirement plan. Russell had taken several civil service exams including NYPD, Corrections Officer, Court Officer and The New York State Police Officers exam. He would encourage others around him to do the same. Russell was attracted to occupations that allowed him to help others, as well as, have personal contact with people overall.
On October 3, 1983, Russell was appointed to the New York State Police Department (in Class 154), and he retired on February 2, 2010 where he served as a Trooper for a little over twenty-seven (27) years. The New York State Police Department had everything Russell had been seeking since leaving high school and pursuing his career in life. While serving with the New York State Police he was assigned to multiple details throughout his career. Including, the Governor's Detail, the Jacob Javits Center, the New York State Police Academy as an Instructor, The World Trade Center Detail, and numerous other details within the department. Russell was a mentor to younger State Troopers and provided sound financial advice to everyone especially those retiring. Russell's last assignment prior to retirement was Station Troop L in Brentwood, New York. Russell loved his work, the relationships he developed with others, and the opportunities it provided him to serve others.
In his leisure time he joyed watching the NY JETS football team, NY Yankees and the NY METS baseball teams, the NY Knicks basketball team, and traveling extensively throughout the world. He enjoyed providing assistance to his family and his friends whenever they needed him. He never refused a call for help to anyone in need.
Unfortunately, after Russell fought the good fight of faith, he would succumb to his illness on February 27, 2023, after being hospitalized at Mount Sinai Hospital, in Oceanside, New York. Even after Russell had passed on he would continue rendering good deeds. Russell's last good deed and his wishes were to donate any of his viable organs. As a result of his organ-donations, three lives were saved; including an NYPD 1st Grade Detective Mary Woods.
May his soul rest in peace and be accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven.
