Rina Ella Pedretti, of Adamstown, Maryland and previously Bayside, New York, passed peacefully at age 91, on December 11, 2024, after a short battle with pneumonia. Rina was born in a bungalow in Henryville, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1933, to Italian immigrants Alfonso and Assunta Pedretti. She graduated from Bushwick High School and then secretarial school, and later graduated from Fordham University with a degree in Anthropology. An avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan, Rina’s many additional interests included gardening, attending ballet and opera performances, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, and traveling the world. She was a dedicated employee at the Janus Financial Corporation in midtown Manhattan for over 40 years before retiring and moving to Maryland. Rina generously shared her time, and in many ways was like a second mother to all in her family as well as to children of her dear friends. She spread love over three continents as she maintained heartfelt contact with family in Italy and Brazil. She was a quiet example of faith, persistence, and perseverance.
Rina was preceded in death by her parents, elder brothers Aliano and Ivio Pedretti, sister Mary Martinelli, and niece Linda Pagels. She is survived by her older sister Elsie Bergamini, four generations of cousins, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
According to Rina’s wishes, a Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church in Bayside, New York on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 9:45 AM, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York. A live stream will be made available through the Church's website. (Go to https://olbs-queens.org/live-mass-stream)
