Born on September 25th,1937 in Rochester, NY, he was the eldest son of the late Ralph C. Barnhart and Mary (Gerber) Barnhart. The family lived in Utah and Maryland before settling in Fayetteville, Arkansas when Lloyd was nine.
Lloyd graduated from the University of Arkansas, majoring in Mathematics. He moved to New York City in 1959 where he earned a PHD in Physics at NYU. Lloyd remained in NYC, enjoying all the City's entertainment and culture.
Lloyd taught Math and Physics at York College CUNY where he was popular with both his colleagues and students. For 20 years, Lloyd was a Sr. Systems Analyst at Control Data and ADP where he was a mentor to his coworkers, one of whom observed “Lloyd didn't talk much at meetings, but when he did, everyone listened.”
Lloyd enjoyed a long retirement and continued to enjoy programming computers at home some of which he built himself. His other hobbies included tennis as player and fan, reading, and most of all playing the piano for his wife when she sings.
Lloyd was predeceased by his three brothers: Bruce, Daniel and Clayton.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol (Slekes) Barnhart, his niece Sara (Barnhart) Eichmann, her husband Justin, and their two children, Elliot and Eleanor of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
All are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at 3 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on 129th Street and 102nd Road in Richmond Hill, NY 11419.
