With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Mattone Sr., a beloved patriarch, accomplished businessman, and cherished member of the community. Joseph departed from this world on March 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, compassion, and enduring love.
Born on September 15, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph, the youngest of nine children, Joseph was raised with strong values of hard work, perseverance, and family unity. These principles would shape his remarkable journey through life and guide him in his many endeavors.
Joseph excelled in his professional career, as an attorney and a prominent figure in the real estate industry. His vision and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a successful legacy as a developer, builder, and property manager. Through his unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence, Joseph garnered respect and admiration from colleagues and peers alike.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle demeanor touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joseph was also deeply committed to serving his community. He generously supported numerous charitable causes and organizations, always seeking to make a positive difference in the lives of others. His philanthropic spirit and generosity will be remembered as a testament to his compassionate nature.
In his leisure time, Joseph enjoyed pursuing his passions for travel, reading, swimming, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his wife. Whether at home or in his office he loved working with his sons and daughters and celebrated all their successes from marriages, graduations from law school or medical school and the births of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph's passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of his loved ones and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, his spirit living on in the countless lives he touched.
Joseph Mattone Sr. was predeceased by his first wife, Irene (Ficarra) Mattone in 1989 and is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann, his 7 children, Julie (Bello) and Gaetano, Irene Mattone and Jose Lopez, Carl Mattone, Joseph and Peggy Mattone, Francesca Mattone-Volpe and Nicholas Volpe, Teresa Mattone and Michael and Denise Mattone, stepson Michael Tabrizi and Adele Quintana, his 27 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, extended family, and friends, finding solace in the cherished memories they shared with him. May he rest in eternal peace, his legacy enduring through the lives he influenced and the hearts he touched.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Center, 7200 Douglaston Pkwy., Douglaston, NY 11362, with visitation scheduled for Monday March 25th and Tuesday March 26th 2:00-4:30 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm. The funeral service to follow on Wednesday March 27th at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Church, St. John’s University, 80-00 Utopia Pkwy., Jamaica, NY. The entombment will follow at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365.
