Born on October 14th, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Philip and Jeanette Keogan.
Janet began her life’s journey as a devoted catholic nun, dedicating 20 years to her faith and service to the convent, in the congregation of Notre Dame. Sister Janet’s time as a nun was marked by her unwavering faith, compassion, and service. She was a beloved French language teacher at Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island, NY. Janet also taught French at St. Mary’s Academy of the Visitation in Providence, Rhode Island.
Later, she embarked on a new chapter in her life, transitioning from religious life to pursue a career in the private sector of higher education. With her strong educational background and commitment to nurturing young minds, she made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues during her tenure at St. John’s School of Law, in Queens, NY, where she served as Registrar until her retirement in 2010.
Though her path diverged, she carried the values instilled in her during her time as a nun, emphasizing compassion, integrity, and lifetime learning. Janet was a loyal volunteer for “Bridge to Life”, a woman’s pregnancy crisis center in College Point, NY. Her love for music also led her to become a member of the Community Singers of Queens.
Janet Keogan’s legacy will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love, wisdom and gentle spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.
