Severa "Miliam" Blanco, 93, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on July 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 8, 1930, in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, to the late Pedro and Lucia Medina. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Tomas Blanco, and together they raised 2 children.
Life brought challenges in Cuba, and during the 1980 Mariel boatlift, Severa and Tomas bravely sought freedom and better opportunities, resettling in Miami, Florida, where they spent the majority of their lives. After Tomas's passing in 2014, Severa moved to Palm Coast in 2017 to be closer to family, residing with her son and daughter-in-law.
Severa found joy in gardening, where she showcased her skills as a master gardener, nurturing a variety of fruit trees. She was also adept at sewing, having lovingly crafted all of her children's clothes during their upbringing. Her leisure time was often spent solving crossword puzzles and word searches, activities she cherished alongside her reputation as a fantastic cook.
Severa was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Blanco, in 2014; her sister, Eladia Medina, in 2023; and her brothers, Ernestina, Pedro, and Isidro Medina. She is survived by her children, Zoe and her husband, Cesar Nieto, and Tomas and his wife, Mayda Blanco; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Nila Afre; brother, Rogelio Medina; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and cherished friends.
