Paul was born January 15, 1945, in Ossining, NY, to Paul and Mary Battista. He grew up in Ossining, graduating from Ossining High School before enlisting in the Air Force. He served from 1963 to 1969 and was honorably discharged.
Following his military service, Paul joined the police force in the Town of Ossining, where he rose through the ranks from Officer to Sergeant. During this time, he raised his family in Ossining and even dedicated time to coaching police-sponsored youth baseball teams.
After retiring, Paul relocated to Palm Coast, FL, where he discovered a new passion at Daytona International Speedway. He worked at The Speedway for the remainder of his life, embracing this new chapter with enthusiasm. Known as L-6, Paul will be remembered by his Speedway family for his service and contributions to the organization. Paul left a lasting impression on so many people, the man truly never met a stranger.
Paul is survived by his children: Karen (Tom) Moran of Kingwood, TX; Edward (Maria) Battista of Carmel, NY; and Dawn Marie (Alex) Garcia of Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by eight cherished grandchildren - Kaitlin, Emily Francine, Julianne, Alyson, Daniel, Alex, James Paul and Cameron; and one great-grandson, Enzo. Paul is also survived by his sister Esther (Bill) Playford of Tucson, AZ.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Francine, his brother Michael Battista and his sisters, Ann Marie Stafford and Nettie Palmisano.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, working at The Speedway, watching Yankee games, and playing Lotto. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his big heart, and generosity; always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Arrangements are under the care and trust of the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Paul and Francine Battista’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, at 11:00 AM at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, located at 915 North Central Avenue, Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
