Michael Ronald Carubia 76, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on January 22, 2021. He was an athlete, educator, veteran, musician, father and grandfather and a best friend anyone would wish for. He was born in 1944 and raised on Long Island during a time where family was everything. His father was Sicilian and mother of Finnish descent. He was raised with an older brother and two sisters. His childhood in the Carubia household was full of fun and laughter. At an early age he discovered the gifts given to him by GOD and perfected each one of them throughout his life. His favorite sports were baseball and golf which he had received many trophies, awards and broke records. When he joined little league, he found he had incredible pitching skills. These skills carried him to the Minor Leagues where he played for the Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles until an injury prevented him from continuing to the Major Leagues. He still maintains his pitching Stats to this date which no one can beat. This disappointment did not bring him down. He had another incredible gift, Music and he loved Jazz. He played the trumpet since grade school and discovered this passion and talent for Music which led him to teaching. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from C. W. Post College (Long Island University) and Master’s Degree from the University of Miami. Michael taught all levels of education from kindergarten to universities changing the lives of students along the way. He was an entrepreneur in the Music Business. He owned several companies including a publishing company, Smart Chart Music and was a founder of The Great South Dixieland Jazz Band and The Swing Syndicate, vocal group. He was a talented musician; music arranger and music contractor and we remember him always contracting events for all occasions which he loved doing. He was well known in the Music Industry for playing his trumpet and was fortunate to travel the world with big showbiz names. He played in bands that performed with Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra Jr., Bob Hope, Geri Mulligan and Village Vanguard Orchestra. He was a substitute trumpet player on Broadway for over 25 shows. His last sub position was the opening act of Chicago. He had a passion for Jazz and loved Thad Jones Music, a famous jazz artist so much he created his music arranging business around Mr. Jones songs. His music can be heard on You Tube, Apple and many other websites. He served a full term in the Army during the Vietnam War. Michael will always be remembered as a gentle and caring person. He was a giver and was always there if someone needed help. Whether it was helping someone move, someone needing comfort or helping someone advance in their career or getting into college. He would be there to talk to, writing his letters or just showing up. He was always there. You can count on him to light up the room wherever he went with his big smile and NY “Hey how are you” or “there you are” which usually followed with a big hug, kiss, or handshake. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He probably loved this most of all. He will be missed greatly by all. Hopefully, we can find some peace knowing he is somewhere playing his trumpet, throwing a ball, and smiling down us. Until we meet again our love for you will keep growing, your memories will be our comfort and your legacy will live on in the hearts you have touched. If we are to learn anything from your life here on earth, we should learn to embrace the gifts we are given from GOD and flourish as you did. I Love You Dad - Kerri. Survivors include his daughters, Kerri Carubia and Steve Jones, Traci Carubia and Tom Bauer; grandchildren, Kacie, and Khloe Jones; sister, Diane (Tony) Mongone; niece, Karrah Mongone; former spouse, Colina Carubia and many more loving relatives and friends. Donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
