At the age of 18, Barry enlisted in the Army as a Combat Infantryman and Airborne soldier. He served valiantly in Vietnam, where he was wounded three times, earning three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, the National Defense Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Barry earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut. After his military service, Barry continued serving in the government sector with the US Postal Service for 25 years, achieving Postmaster level.
Barry leaves his loving wife Trish, a daughter Rebecca (Don) Gritti, a son, Barry, Jr., (Sarah) Cafarelli, three grandchildren, Gwen Forget, Jack Cafarelli and Lizzie Cafarelli. Two brothers, Mort Cafarelli and Joe Cafarelli. One sister, Judy Guglietta.
Besides his parents Daniel and Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Cafarelli.
A service to honor Barry's life will be held at Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home on Saturday, November 23rd, at 11 AM, located at 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach.
