She was born on April 26, 1938, at home to Frances Ball Phillips and Charles Lee Phillips Sr.
Mary Margaret was the seventh of their nine children and grew up in a loving and boisterous family.
She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1956 where she played the clarinet and was a majorette in the marching band. She went to Beauty School in Charleston, WV. She worked as a beautician in Fayetteville and was able later to open her own shop in her home.
She was a “people person” and had many friends. She was also an animal lover and had several cats and dogs through the years. She especially loved her poodle – ShuShu.
Mary Margaret was a member of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Phillips Wendell and her husband, Houston “Wheat” Wendell, Courtney Phillips Proctor and her husband, Herbert “Pete” Proctor, Martha “Janie” Phillips; her brothers, Charles Lee Phillips, Jr., Joseph Preston Phillips and John David Phillips; her brothers-in-law, Cam Wimer and Dennis Hanson; and her nephews, Richard Wendell, Joseph Phillips, Jr. and Jacob Andrew Hanson; and her niece, Leva Wimer.
Mary Margaret is survived by her son, Britt Phillips Thrift; and her sisters, Eleanor Wimer and Susan Hanson; sisters-in-law, Kay Phillips, Jeannie Phillips and Martha Phillips, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mary Margaret will be cremated and graveside rites will be held at a date to be determined in January. Her remains will be buried in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, WV.
