Vincent John Corcoran died peacefully at home on Sunday January 17, 2016 with his loving wife of 16 years and devoted caregiver, Terri Corcoran, along with other family. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Anne Marie Corcoran, in 1981. He is survived by his 5 children: Kevin Corcoran (Mitsi) of Bradenton, FL; Margaret Dauma (John) of Herndon, VA; Kathleen Duke(George) of Glen Allen, VA; Karen Moore (William) of Aylett, VA; and Brian Corcoran (Samanthia) of Glen Allen, VA. He is also survived by six wonderful grandchildren: Kristina and Alyssa Corcoran, Ryan Corcoran, Ashley Dauma, and Daniel and Anna Corcoran. He leaves behind his two younger brothers, Francis and John (Barbara).
Vince was born on October 7, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to his parents, Vincent Anthony and Filomena(Mae) Corcoran. He grew up in Chicago, received his undergraduate degree from Fournier Institute and Notre Dame, received his Masters at the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Florida. He was a brilliant laser scientist and physicist, who worked at Martin Marietta in Orlando, FL (1963-1973), then taking a job w/ the Institute for Defense Analyses in Crystal City, VA. In 1980, he founded Potomac Synergetics, Inc., a laser consulting company; formed The Society for Optical and Quantum Electronics; and founded a laser manufacturing company, Photon Interactions. His love of the arts spurred him to create the performing arts newspaper, The Review. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, along with a wide variety of interests, including traveling, cooking, dancing, the performing arts, and the love of learning. We wish to thank all of those who were committed to his care in the last few years, especially Habib, Francis(posthumous) and Joana.
The family will receive visitors on Wed., Jan. 20, 2016, between 6 & 8 p.m. at Murphy's Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St., Falls Church, VA., with prayers at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA 22101.
