Teresa Marie Buchanan

Teresa Marie Buchanan (Elia), 83, of Falls Church, passed away on August 18th, 2023, in Aldie, VA. Teresa was born in Washington DC to Eugene and Angela Elia (Bruno) on August 31st, 1939. She grew up in Washington DC and Hillcrest Heights, MD and attended high school in Washington DC at Notre Dame. She married Stewart Buchanan on September 5th, 1959, at Holy Family Church in Hillcrest Heights, MD. She and her husband Stewart lived in Falls Church for over 60 years where they raised 2 children (Joann and Dale). She remained living in Falls Church until her passing. Teresa worked as an admin for Honeywell in her 30s and 40s, then retiring and working as an office manager and receptionist at a hair salon in Falls Church called Perfect Endings until she was 78 years old. She loved greeting all the costumers with her sparkling personality and wonderful smile. Teresa also loved her granddaughter Mikayla and would spend her Monday afternoons with her picking her up after her ½ day of elementary school years ago. Teresa was a member of the Jazzercize of Falls Church Community/Group where she could be found 5-6 days per week dancing and working as a registrar for over 30 years. She loved her community of Jazzercize friends and staying active. She also worked part time walking dogs for Rover and enjoyed walking her K9 Companions. She was a true animal lover. Teresa was also an avid Washington Nationals Baseball Fan and could be found attending games or sitting in front of the TV rooting for her favorite team. She was admired for her courage and her positive outlook as she tried to beat this Multiple Myeloma cancer that took over her body. She will be sorely missed by all. Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Angela Elia (Bruno), sister Dora Lord, brothers Armondo Elia, and Rudy Elia, Mother/Father In-law Queenie Buchanan and Oscar Buchanan, and her husband Stewart Buchanan. Teresa is survived by her daughter and son, Joann M Townsend of Centreville, VA, Dale E Buchanan of Huntsville, AL, and her granddaughter Mikayla M Townsend of Sarasota, FL, her brother David Weigle of Richmond, VA, and many nieces and nephews far and near including some great nieces and nephews and cousins. The family of Teresa wishes to extend our sincere thank you to Capital Care Hospice, the Adler Center, Aldie, VA, and the doctors that cared for her at Virginia Hospital, Arlington, VA. Additionally special thanks and love to family and friends that came to visit and supported her, and the wonderful neighbors and friends that took her to her weekly doctors’ appointments, brought her meals or just came by for a visit. She very much appreciated every one of you. Much love to you all.
