Richard was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Charles and Betty Byrd on May 2, 1953. He married Mary on May 6, 1978 in Alexandria, Virginia.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles Byrd II, his sister Vivian Gowdy, and his aunt Mary Borrows.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Casey Byrd; daughter, Jamie Lucas; son-in-law, Jesse Lucas, sister; Bonnie Bennett; sister, Betty Wine; brother, Tim Byrd; brother, Steve Byrd and granddaughter, Amelia Lucas.
Memorials may be given to March of Dimes for the support given to Richard’s granddaughter, Amelia.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 at National Memorial Park. Arrangements are by National Memorial Park.
