Mildred Morris Taylor, age 84, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born in Cumberland, KY to the late Luther Edward Morris and Maxie Mae Smith Morris. Mildred attended Cumberland High School before attending Union College in Barbourville, KY where she met her future husband Edward J. Taylor, Jr. Mildred serviced by his side for the next 66 years. Mildred received her Bachelor of Arts from Mary Baldwin College in 1978.
Mildred was a devoted wife of a United Methodist Minister and extremely active in the United Methodist Church. She served 40 years by her husband’s side at the following churches, Lafayette in Elliston, VA; Francis Asbury in Virginia Beach, VA; Grace in Roanoke, VA; Market St. in Winchester, VA; Highland in Colonial Heights, VA; Wesley Memorial in Charlottesville, VA; Asbury in Harrisonburg, VA; Dulin in Falls Church, VA; and Grace in Manassas, VA. She was also a school teacher in the Charlottesville Public Schools and the Rockingham County Public Schools.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Morris and brother, Kenneth Morris.
She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Taylor, Jr., daughter, Deborah Anne Taylor , son Edward John Taylor, III (Dayna Evans Taylor), daughter, and Susan Elizabeth Taylor, grandchildren Charlotte Ingram Taylor and Sara Lewis Taylor, brothers, Luther, Raymond, and Edward Morris, and sisters, Wilma Gibson, Delores Davis, and Patricia Scopa.
The family will receive friends at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at Fairlington United Methodist Church, 3900 King Street, Alexandria, VA on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11AM with interment to follow at National Memorial Park.
