Diane was born in Washington, D.C. to Millard A. Walter, Jr. and Mary Esther Pilkerton Walter on January 23, 1953. She grew up in Forest Heights, MD and enjoyed being a majorette. She graduated in 1971 from Oxon Hill High School.
She worked a variety of jobs, including years of administrative work at Mutual Broadcasting System and Rubber Manufacturers Assoc. Diane had her own resume service for many years called The Professional Touch. One of her most memorable jobs was being a security guard for Event Staff where she attended numerous concerts and sporting events. Diane enjoyed talking on the phone, reading, coloring and doing crossword puzzles.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Tonya R. Mortensen (Kevin Sledziona) of Fredericksburg, VA; her brother, Millard A. Walter, III (Ann Walter) of LaPlata, MD; her father, Millard A. Walter, Jr. of LaPlata, MD; her grandchildren, Christopher, Bailey, and Noah Mortensen, Charles and Wyatt Sledziona; and great-grandson, Malachai Mortensen, nieces & nephew, Stephanie LaFleur of Norman, OK, Catherine Schultz of Baltimore, MD and Sean Schultz (Hannah Auerbach) of Ashland, VA; along with a magnitude of cousins and friends.
Diane was preceded in death by her mother, Mary E. Walter, her husband, John Charles Craven, and grandchildren, Delaney & Sawyer Sledziona.
Diane’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Quality Center for Rehab and Healing and all the nurses with Gentiva Hospice.
A casual memorial gathering for Diane will take place at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2024, at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Hwy Falls Church, VA 22042 with the burial to follow onsite at National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
