Jonathan Carpenter was born on Jan. 26, 1991 in Fairfax, VA and died on Oct. 13, 2020, in McLean, VA. He was sweet, charming, smart, funny, handsome, affectionate, sometimes blunt and always unapologetically independent. His family and friends are heartbroken at his passing, while comforted by the thought that he always knew he was loved by family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Debbie and Bill Carpenter of McLean; his brother, Reed and his wife Holly and nieces Lainee and Layla and nephew Elam, brother, Drew; his sister, Carrie Philbin and her husband Pat, nephews Jackson, Kieran and Brooks and niece Brynn; and his grandfather, Robert Carpenter. He had numerous others who also loved him: aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was a magnet to kids, and his nieces and nephews could often be seen hanging off of him as he played with them.
Jonathan lived most of his life in Northern Virginia. He grew up in Falls Church and was the youngest of four kids. He went to St. James Catholic School and Bishop O'Connell High School where his dad was a teacher and coach. He lived among a family of athletes, and he was an accomplished athlete himself. At O'Connell, he was an All-American and All-Met wrestler. Jonathan attended Virginia Tech, where he received a degree in accounting and finance. After college, he moved back to Northern Virginia, living and working in McLean and later in Alexandria as an accountant.
Jonathan’s unique personality made him fun to be around, and friends came easily. He was close to his family. He spent his free time with his family and buddies watching baseball and hockey. He was thrilled to buy tickets and accompany his father and brother, Reed, to a Nationals' World Series game and Jonathan saw the Capitals in numerous playoff games; treating his friends and beloved girlfriend, Leah to great seats at the events. He liked techno-music and playing video games with friends. He traveled to all 50 states in the US and most of Canada with family and friends. He spent a month in Europe with friends and brought back many fond memories. His family and friends were blessed to have shared his life with him and ask for your prayers for him and others who suffer from depression.
