Grace Adams Rice was born in Mauldin, South Carolina, on November 10, 1921, to Benjamin Franklin Adams and Eva Mae Ellis Adams. Grace passed peacefully on the morning of November 30, 2017. After graduating from high school and further education at secretarial school, she moved to Washington, DC. In 1941, she went to work for the Department of Agriculture as a secretary. Shortly thereafter, she met, was courted and married Robert D. Rice, Sr., on October 16, 1941. The newlyweds made their first home in Annandale, VA before moving to Hillwood in Falls Church, VA. Their son, Robert D. Rice, Jr., was born in 1942. Carolyn A. Rice Brown was born two years later followed by Randall V. Rice in 1951. The family moved to a new home in Pine Spring, VA in 1954, where she lived until 2015, when she moved to Gainesville, VA. Grace’s interests were singing in the church choir, her gardens, watching birds, cooking, sewing and the love of her family and friends. Grace was a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Grace is survived by her sister, Nell Adams Thompson of Mauldin, SC. Other brothers and sisters who preceded her in death were: Maybelle Adams White, Albert Adams, Frances Adams Mayfield, Benjamin Adams and Millard “Bill” Adams.
Grace’s surviving children and family include: Robert D. Rice, Jr. and his spouse, Kay W. Rice, Carolyn A. Rice Brown, and Randall V. Rice and his spouse, Janice Rice. Grandchildren include: Kevin Rice, Jennifer Rice Mintz, James Brown, Valerie Rice Vogel, and Justin Rice. Great grandchildren include: Allison Grace Rice, Andrew Rice, Ethan Rice, Elizabeth Rice, Joshua Rice, Christopher J. Brown, Hunter Vogel, Kaia Vogel, Georgia Mintz, Jackson Mintz, Emily Rice and Ian Rice. Other family members include Carol Rice, spouse of Kevin Rice, Richard Mintz, spouse of Jennifer Mintz, Timothy Vogel, spouse of Valerie Vogel, Meredith Rice, spouse of Justin Rice and Crystal Brown, spouse of James Brown.
