Fred Cox

Fred Huston Cox, 86, of Annandale, Virginia passed away peacefully from covid pneumonia on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Halquist Hospice Center. Fred was born in Carroll County, VA to the late James Allen and Laura Sutphin Cox. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Cox, and 12 brothers and sisters.

Early in life he developed a love for and talents in baseball and auto mechanics. After a blind date with his future wife, Lois, he applied those interests into coaching, golf, and a successful service station business in Rosslyn. He and Lois celebrated 66 years of love and marriage in November. Until his last breathe, he adored and took care of his beautiful wife.

He always had a friendly, easy-going nature with people and especially enjoyed his later 20 years as a starter at Westfields Golf Club. He was a man of great faith, serving as an usher every Sunday at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church and keeping an eye out for any way to help others.

Fred enjoyed time together with his family and had great pride in his 5 children. He rarely missed a ballgame or performance for any of his children or grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by: his children, Terry Cox (Greta), Kim Shepherd (Jamie),Tracey Leckey (Cory), and Mark Cox (Kelly); his grandchildren, Tiffany Niehl (Jason), Sean Cox (Cailin), Casey Cox, Kezia Leckey, Brittany Leckey, Bailey Deal, Cody Cox, Bethany Dodson, and Kevin Cox; his great-grandchildren, Caroline Cox, Austin Cox, Alina Calloway-Leckey, Jackson Niehl, Kaira Leckey, Beckett Niehl, Keziah Wingate, and Jayceon Collins; and many sisters- and brothers-in law, nieces, nephews and friends.

A private graveside service will be held on January 2, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church, VA. Condolences and fond memories may be left for the Cox family at murphyfuneralhomes.com.
