Edward James Monroe

Edward J Monroe, 85, of Cottage Grove WI, passed away on May 14th, 2023 in Falls Church, VA. Edward was born in Wisconsin Rapids to Ralph Monroe and Clarice Tollund on June 11, 1937. He went to school at Madison East High School. He also graduated from Detroit Bible College. 1n 1967 he married Joye Gesner in Rockford, IL. He worked as a Pastor for 30 years, and was a veteran of U.S. Army. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Clarice Monroe, his brother Robert Monroe, and sister JoAnn Martin. Edward is survived by His wife Joye Monroe, children James (Joelle) and Julie Byrd, brothers Alan (Melinda), Thomas (Donna), and David (Susan), Grandchildren Christina Downing (Paul), Noah Byrd, Emmalynn, Jacob, and Elliott Monroe, and great-grandson Jaxon Downing. Memorials may be given to The Edward Monroe Library at Grace Baptist Church, Madison WI. Edward’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Grace Baptist Church, Vitas Hospice, and our friend and brother Michael Tutu. A memorial service will be held at 5 pm, June 30th, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church: 1801 S. Thompson Drive, Madison WI 53716, with Pastor Dean Howell officiating. Visitation with the family will take place from 4-5 pm, and food and fellowship will follow the service.
