Barbara Reeves Womack, 74, of Springfield Virginia, died on August 2, 2013. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home after a long illness, under the care of her husband and a dedicated team of caregivers.
She was born in Washington DC on December 4, 1938 at Columbia Hospital for Women.
In 1957, she graduated from St. Cecilias Catholic High School in Washington. The following year, on March 8, 1958 she married Raymond L. Womack.
In addition to working for a Credit Bureau, she worked for Mar-Ves Studios from 1959-1974, a photography firm that specialized in group photographs for tourists visiting the Washington area. The firms work was included in a 1999 special edition of the Washington Post Magazine, “Portrait of the City”.
In 1974, following the death of her Mother Marie Reeves, she carried on the family business and became President of Thrifty Tours, Inc. A group tour operator specializing in student travel to Washington DC. She continued in this position until her retirement in 2005, following a merger with ET-Educational Tours, Inc.
She served as a Board Member of The Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC, from 1997-2005.
An avid interior decorator, she founded Creative Interiors, Inc. in 1991 and continued operating it until shortly before her death.
In addition to her Mother, she was pre deceased by her father Stiles Reeves, and her “sister” Louise L. Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond L. Womack and their son James K. Womack.
