Born in Fall River a son of the late Manuel Mello and Leonor (Mello) Souza, he was a longtime resident of Fall River before moving to Somerset.
He began a 49 year, successful career at Gold Medal Bakery at the age of 16, and was inducted into their sales organization the Black Sheep Society. He was a Little League Coach at Columbus Park in Fall River for 29 years. He was also an avid bowler and golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert Mello, Jr. and his wife Dorothy (Cloutier), Susan (Mello) Hetzler and her husband Karl both of Fall River; his bonus children, Thomas F. Lefevre and his wife Elizabeth (Soares) of Somerset and Benjamin J. Lefevre and his companion Nicole Perry of Swansea; brother, Charles Mello and his wife Alice; sister, Eva Souza; aunt, Irene Mello, grandchildren, Elizabeth Mello, Kathleen Mello, Kimberly (Mello) Aguiar and her husband Scott, Kristin (Hetzler) DeMeo and her husband John, and Lindsay Hetzler; bonus grandchildren, Dakota, Hunter and Ryder Lefevre and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 9:00 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St., Fall River.
