Born in Fall River a son of the late William O. and Mildred (Collins) Sowersby he was a longtime resident of the city.
A veteran of the United States Army, he worked as the Senior Data Packaging Engineer at Raytheon for over 35 years. He led the team that designed the packaging for shipping the Patriot Missile for our military. In his retirement, he was a packaging consultant for French Packaging and Howard Hughes Aircraft located in California.
Neil was a caddy at the Fall River Country Club during his high school years where he developed his love for the game. He was a longtime member of the Fall River and Swansea Country Clubs.
An avid golfer, stamp, coin and fountain pen collector, he loved antiques, yard sales, auctions and flea markets. He was well respected in the antique community for his knowledge and personality.
He loved to do wood carvings, models of ships and ships in a bottle in his spare time.
He is survived by four children, Neil Sowersby and his wife Eton of Glenolden, PA, Valerie Doré and her husband Douglas of North Attleboro, Kevin Sowersby and his wife Patti of Northport, FL and Jason Sowersby and his wife Carolyn of Westport; one sister, Jean Sowersby Bolton; nine grandchildren, Amanda Sowersby, Justin Sowersby, Conor Sowersby, Shelby Simcoe, Kelcie Sowersby, Shannon Sowersby, Erin Grover, Meghan Sowersby and Colby Sowersby; four great children, Lily, Emma, Finn and Oliver and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William O. Sowersby, Ethel Sowersby Kenyon, Robert E. Sowersby and Paul R. Sowersby.
His Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Visiting hours are 9:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. For tributes and directions, www.waring-sullivan.com
