Margaret H. (Carroll) “Peggy” Mitchell, age 86, of Fall River, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late, Edmund J. Mitchell, retired Captain of the Fall River Police Department.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Helen G. (Wallbank) Carroll, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of the former Sacred Hearts Academy, class of 1946, she worked as a Public Housing Project Manager for the Fall River Housing Authority until her retirement in 1984. She was a communicant of the St. Mary’s Cathedral and a member of their Seniors Club. She was also a member of the Corky Row Club and the Fall River Democratic City Committee.
She is survived by three daughters: Jane E. Caron and her husband Richard, Mary E. Fitzgerald, and Margaret C. O’Brien all of Fall River, three brothers: Thomas L. Carroll of Wellfleet, MA, Donald J. Carroll of Fall River, and James F. Carroll of Swansea, one sister: Mary T. Carroll-Quinn of Westport, seven grandchildren: Maille K., Abaigeal C., and Jane E. O’Brien, Thomas C. and Martha J. Fitzgerald, Jeffrey M. Caron, and Julie M. Caron-Silvia, five great-grandchildren: Landry E. and Charles J. Caron, Violet C., Mitchell E. and Andrew R. Silvia, and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late John T. and Donald J. Mitchell.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 9:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring Street, Fall River.
