Born in Fall River, a son of Maurice T. and Irene (Benfeito) Bernier of Adamsville, TN, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
He attended BMC Durfee High School and was a graduate of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School and New England Tech, A United States Army Veteran, he serving in Germany during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Alves worked as an electrician at the Newport Naval Base for over 20 years.
He was a former Chief of his beloved Native American Indian Black Foot Tribe, enjoyed the outdoors, being with his family and friends and attending tribe Pow Wows.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two daughters; Mary Cordeiro of Fall River, Jessica Alves of Weymouth, six brothers; Henry Alves of North Hampton, Warren Alves of Fall River, Bryant Bernier of Acushnet, Jeffrey Bernier of Warwick, RI, Michael Bernier and Maurice Bernier both of Adamsville, TN, two sisters; Sally Bernier of Adamsville TN, Sandra Mercier of Lutts, TN, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Andrea Bernier.
His Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 10:30AM in Espirito Santo Church, 311 Alden St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Contributions in his memory may be sent to: 4 Lenox St. Fall River, MA 02721. Burial private. Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place.
