Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Lewis) Griffin.
Barbara attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and worked as a Machinist for Jackson Co. and Elbe Files for many years. Prior to her retirement, she was a Housekeeper for the Days Inn in Fall River.
Barbara was one of the strongest souls this world has ever known and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She will be remembered as a hardworking and passionate woman who loved being “Ma” to her children, “Grandma” to her grandchildren, and “Nana” to her great-grandchildren. Throughout her journey in life, she enjoyed various pastimes, including selling Avon, reading, watching the nightly news, and taking trips to Newport Grand Casino, and was a huge Elvis Presley fan. As a loving and irreplaceable mother, her children meant the world to her, and she left her “mark of love” with her red lipstick on the foreheads of her whole family.
She is survived by her six children, Debra Johnson of Fall River, Dawn Dunn and her husband Michael of Somerset, MA, Edward Silvia, Jr. of Fall River, Barbara Crowley and her husband John of Portsmouth, RI, Thomas Silvia of Fall River, and Erin Silvia of Los Angeles, CA; six siblings, Edward McVey, Dorothy McVey, John Griffin, Linda Lynn, Joseph Rebello, and Robert Rebello; eleven grandchildren, Kayla Silvia, Courtney Castro, Christopher Silvia, Tara Silva, Zoey Johnson, Autumn Johnson, Dominic Garant, Corrin Crowley, Denver Silvia, Riley Silvia, and Benjamin Crowley; eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Hannah, Joshua, Bray-den, Ryleigh, Tatum, Gianna, and Norah, as well as four grand fur babies, Morgan, Brett, Simon, and Fen-way, and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was also the mother of the late Barbara Silvia and sister of the late Henry McVey, Thomas Griffin, Beverly Vickery, and Helen Lucas.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 1335 N.
