Anne (Durfee) Buffinton O’Brien, aged 94, of Tiverton, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, in Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of late John Larkin O’Brien Jr., to whom she was married to for 45 years.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Azariah T. and Dorothy (Durfee) Buffinton. A graduate of Vassar College, class of 1950, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
Anne was very active in her church: she was a member of St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea in Little Compton for twenty-three years. Prior to that was a member of St. Michael’s in Bristol and of Grace Church in White Plains, NY. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, being a mom, and small family gatherings. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and donated to many different causes.
She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Paxton (John) of San Francisco, Eugene O’Brien of Fall River, and Dede Jennings (Samuel) of Cranston, one granddaughter, Isabel Paxton of New York City, and one sister, Sylvia Tompkins, of Little Compton. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helena Buffinton and Elizabeth Briggs.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, at 11:00 AM, in St. Andrews by the Sea, 182 Willow Ave, Little Compton, RI 02837, with a reception following at the church. Family and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
