

Olivia Villarreal Escalante entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at a nursing home in Edinburg, Texas at the age of 94. She was born on November 1, 1922 to Daniel Villarreal and Juanita Solis Villarreal in La Grulla, Texas in Starr County. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was known to them as “La Bebe” and she always felt so blessed and proud of her family. In her spare time, Olivia loved to crochet and knit.
As she entered into the paradise the Lord promised her, she was welcomed by her parents; husband, Gregorio Escalante; brothers, Daniel Villarreal, Alejandro Villarreal, Daniel Villarreal, Jr. and Ramon (Nena) Villarreal; sisters, Consuelo Villarreal and Baudelia Villarreal and brother-in-law, Enrique Zamora.
She leaves behind to carry on her legacy and cherish her memories her three sons, Jose Luis (Benelda) Escalante of Falfurrias, Jose Angel (Beatriz) Escalante of Falfurrias and Miguel Angel Escalante of Edinburg; one brother, David (Minerva) Villarreal of Encino, Texas; two sisters, Viola Zamora of San Manuel, Texas and Baudelia (Blas) Saenz of San Isidro, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Orlando Escalante, Corando Escalante, Jose Gregorio Escalante, Jose Angel Escalante, Jr., Miguel A. Escalante and Matthew Esai Morales.
Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Encino with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Encino with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at La Mesa Cemetery in Encino.
