Middy Wilkinson was born June 26, 1953 to Clara Lois Wright and Ed Wilkinson in Falfurrias, Texas. Middy is survived by siblings; twin Paula (Jim) Maupin of Falfurrias, Glen (Debbie) Wilkinson of Premont and special friend, Jack Murphy of Falfurrias. Middy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Laura Wilkinson Howell and brother Billy Ed Wilkinson. Mimi was loved by 5 nieces, 5 nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Middy’s out pour of love was exemplified through her career of teaching, school librarian, cheerleader, Student Council and class sponsors. Her teaching career began in 1974 in Nixon, Texas followed by librarian of Falfurrias Junior School and retiring as the Falfurrias High School librarian after 30 years of service. On January 8th of 1997, Middy was recognized as Channel 3 “Teacher’s Make A Difference” after being nominated by a student of Falfurrias High School.
Throughout the years Middy touched the lives of so many. She challenged Student Council members to seek offices on the local, district, state and National levels. During her 22 consecutive years as Student Council sponsor, Middy was named “Advisor of the Year” 3 times being nominated by the 40 schools in her district. She led students to Washington, DC for competition in the National History Fair. Her encouragement and support gave students the confidence to set high goals and achieve the unachievable.
Upon retirement “The Twins”, Middy and Paula fulfilled their lifelong dream of owning and operating Twin Treasures. Twin Treasures was an avenue to share their creativity and give back to the community. Putting a smile on the face of the giver and receiver was more than money could buy. God blessed Middy with talented hands and a giving heart that made each personalized item one of a kind and made out of love.
Middy never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile, or “Hey Girl!” She made sure that if you didn’t have a smile by the end of your “session” you had one of hers. Middy was the life of the party and has been quoted as saying, “I can make a party out of a funeral”. On this special day let us celebrate the very blessed life we shared with Middy Wilkinson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 9th, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Falfurrias, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Middy Wilkinson Memorial Fund in care of the First National Bank in Falfurrias, Falfurrias, TX. 78355.
