Marcus Garza, devoted father and beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on June 10, 2024 at his home in Hebbronville, Texas. Marcus was born in Falfurrias, Texas and grew up in Hebbronville, where he worked as a special education teacher for Jim Hogg County I.S.D.
Marcus was both a lifelong learner and an educator. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Education, he returned to school to study speech pathology and worked as a children’s speech therapist in San Antonio, Texas. He later became a special education teacher. As a child, Marcus struggled to overcome a speech disorder and he carried the experience with him as he worked with patience and understanding to help children with special needs overcome their own obstacles in the classroom. He was currently pursuing a Master’s degree in school psychology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Marcus always radiated a smile wherever he went. He was easygoing, kindhearted and a faithful friend. When he wasn’t working or in school, he enjoyed hanging out with his family and close friends, cooking out and swapping funny stories, or taking trips together. Marcus was also a wonderful father. His two young sons, Mason and Easton, were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with the boys, whether it was taking them to get haircuts, to the beach with friends or to play in the basketball, football or baseball sports leagues they joined.
Marcus is preceded in death by his father, Armando Garza, and is survived by his two sons, Mason James and Easton Marcus; his mother Leonor Ramirez-Regalado; stepmother Maria Elda Garza; siblings Armando Garza, Jr. (Jessica Espinoza), Cynthia Leonor Garza (Eyder Peralta) and Michael Garza (Laura Ann Garza) and numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his extended family and countless friends who all treasured him for his heart of gold.
The family will receive condolences on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Hebbronville; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
