Gregorio “Goyo” Ruiz gained his angel wings and halo on Monday, April 16, 2018 as he entered into eternal rest at a hospital in Laredo, Texas at the age of 68. He was born on December 3, 1949 to Valentin Ruiz and Margarita Gomez Ruiz in Hebbronville, Texas. Goyo proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later worked as a driver for the Community Action Council-South in Hebbronville.
During his spare time, Goyo really took pleasure in volunteering for many community activities and even ran horse shoe benefits to help those in need. He was a member of the American Legion and a teacher for the CCD classes of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He enjoyed helping others as often as he could and loved to participate, with the military veterans, for school and community activities. Goyo had a passion for music and dancing. He also loved to participate and arrange horse shoe tournaments.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; first wife, Rachel Ramirez Ruiz; brother, Gabriel Ruiz, Sr. and brothers-in-law, Raul Gomez and Saturnino Alaniz.
He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memories his wife, Olivia Carmona Ruiz of Hebbronville; two sons, Pedro (Imelda) Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas and Gregorio (Celica) Ruiz, II of Edinburg, Texas; three daughters, Daniela Ruiz of Austin, Texas, Aurelia Ramirez of Corpus Christi and Frances Marie Ramirez of Houston, Texas; brothers, Tomas (Maria Josephina) Ruiz of Hebbronville, Valentin (Esmeralda) Ruiz of Hebbronville and Simon (Cecilia) Ruiz of El Paso, Texas; sisters, Virginia Ruiz Gomez of San Antonio and Oralia Alaniz of Hebbronville; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jose Omar Alaniz, Rey Gomez, Juan Jimenez, Jr., Gabriel Ruiz, Jr., Javier Ruiz and Dusty Silguero.
Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Hebbronville with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held at the American Legion following burial services.
