Shirley Jean Kernan

On October 10, 1964, Shirley married the love of her life, Ronald L. Kernan, Sr. Together they raised 5 wonderful kids, two daughters and three sons. Shirley loved caring for people. She was a daycare owner for twenty-six years. She later worked caring for the elderly at Charles Gardens retirement home in Fairview Heights. She also owned her own dry cleaning business for several years.

Shirley loved going to the casino and traveling. Her favorite thing in the world was spending time with her family and friends. She was known for being "The GRANDMA" to many. Shirley had a naïve sweet demeanor, hence the nickname "Rose." She was always there when anyone needed her. She was also the queen of cleaning. Most of all, Shirley loved the Lord and was a strong believer in her faith.

Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Smith, her brother, Leroy Lindsey, and her sister, Wanda Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Kernan, Sr.; children, Angela Kernan, Rhonda (Barry) Kernan-Sackett, Ronald (Kim) Kernan, Jr., John (Erin) Kernan, and Christopher Kernan; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Sue (Don) Kitchel and Joe Lindsey.

A visitation for Shirley will be held Friday, October 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM, with the committal service immediately following the service.
