Janet Lee Burian

Janet was born December 14, 1929 in East St. Louis, IL to Matthew and Bessie (Manley) Soehnlin. She married Richard Burian in 1946; he preceded her in death on April 25, 2018.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Kenneth Burian; and her sisters, Jean Staudte, Delores Lampkin and Vernita Pruehsner.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Diane (David) Burian-Spatz of Asotin, WA; grandchildren, Dustin (Robin) Franke of Wellington, KS, Dawn Franke of Belleville, IL, Dana (Jeff) Harris of Mascoutah, IL, Heather (Miguel) Ballesteros of Romeoville, IL, Shawn Burian of Romeoville, IL and Erin (Matt) Henry of Portland, OR; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; and a dear family friend who helped Janet in countless ways, Ian Wallace of Staunton, IL.

In years past, Janet worked as a bookkeeper in the banking industry. She and Richard then worked for Scott Air Force Base and transferred to Charleston, South Carolina. She retired from the United States civil service as an administrative assistant to the Colonel.

Janet was known for carrying on the tradition of making her mother-in-laws famous Czechoslovakian potato dumplings. Her family continues to make them in her honor and will cherish the tradition for years to come. Janet was an exceptional cook and baker, who always shared her delicious treats with friends and family. She and Richard were involved with Mended Hearts, a non-profit organization helping patients with heart disease. She wrote two cookbooks that were published by the organization.

She loved to travel, cross-stitch and watch old Westerns. Janet will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, in honor of Richard and Janet.

VISITATION: A visitation for Janet will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 11:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.

FUNERAL- A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
