Jim was born October 5, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to James V. Sr. and Loretta (Cady) Ellison. They preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Ellison and his two brother-in-laws, Nicholas Kokotovich and Gary McNelly Sr.
Jim is survived by his loving children, Jamie (Brian) Ellison-Kapp of Fairview Heights, IL, Jim (Teresa) Ellison of Belleville, IL, and Julie (Michael Sullivan) Ellison of Millstadt, IL; the mother of his children, Lynn Ellison of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Haley (Kyle) Lewman of Belleville, IL and Dr. Brianne Kapp of Tacoma, WA; siblings, Barbara Kokotovich of Bonita Springs, FL, Kathy (Tom) Gillum of Swansea, IL, Peggy McNelly of Glen Carbon, IL; sister-in-law, Sandy Ellison of St. Charles, MO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Years ago, Jim worked as a car salesman. Along with selling cars, he proudly owned and operated Old Timer Inn, Cat & Fiddle Tavern and Tim & Joe's, all in Belleville, IL. These restaurants brought him years of hard work, great memories and dear friendships.
Jim also served as Supervisor of Stookey Township for many years.
He loved all sports, especially his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed golfing, singing, and spending time with his family and friends in his free time. He was also very proud of his Irish heritage. Jim will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Jim's family would like to extend a special thank you to his care team at Hospice of Southern Illinois for their care and compassion.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Augustine of Canterbury in Belleville, IL with visitation from 10:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M., followed by a Memorial Mass at 1:00 P.M.
Final interment will be private at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL at a later date.
