Howard Stowe Simpson, 86, of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, but longtime resident of Fairview Heights, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024. Howard was born January 18, 1938 in East Saint Louis, Illinois to Darwin and Bessie (nee Stowe) Simpson.
After attending Southern Illinois University, Howard went on to teach Science for 32 years with a majority of his years at Belleville East High School until he retired in June of 1994. During his career he also earned a Master’s degree and after retirement earned his physical therapist assistant degree from Belleville Area College.
Howard and Clara enjoyed their life on the lake and opened up their home to many people along the way. They always made you feel as if you were on vacation. Howard’s hobbies included tennis, golf, fishing and watching Cardinals games with Clara or his buddies. He also enjoyed spending many summers in Colorado and traveling to visit his grandkids throughout the year. Howard was an involved member at Westview Baptist Church along with belonging to the men’s group and Westhaven Elks Club. Above all else, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, from the countless hours spent driving and watching Jennifer play tennis to supporting Chris at WestPoint and through his Army career. His grandkids remember his love of Chuckwagon, steaks on the grill, sneaking them ice cream for breakfast, fishing on the lake, being pulled around in the wagon, Cardinal games, hiking their 40-acres and Colorado sunset horseback rides. Howard was caring, funny and a friend to all.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Clara Simpson; parents; sister, Laura Gregson; brother, Donald Simpson.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Mogge of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois and son, Christopher (Molly) Simpson, of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren Keely Mogge (22), Conner Mogge (20), Delaney Mogge (17), Madeline Simpson (22), Nicholas Simpson (18) and Finian Simpson (15); many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
Funeral will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
