Herb was born on January 1, 1941 in East St. Louis, IL to Ignatz and Emma (Seier) Halwachs.
They preceded him in death.
Herb his survived by his wife of 58 years, Trudie (Gaines) Halwachs of Waterloo, IL; two daughters, Melissa "Missy" (Mike) Kimbrell of Lebanon, IL and Gabrielle "Gabby" (Brandon) Hanks of Waterloo, IL; and his beloved grandchildren, Caitlyn (Josh Brown) Drolet of Milwaukee, Wl and Will Hanks of Waterloo, IL.
He was also preceded in death by Trudie's parents, his in-laws, Charles and Rose Marie Gaines; siblings, Emma Veres, Josephine Conder, James Halwach Sr., Louis Halwachs, John Halwachs and Shirley Powell.
From 1960-1969, Herb worked on the fire department in East St. Louis. He then went on to work for 34 years and retire from the St. Louis Post Dispatch as a mailer. Herb was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Fairview Heights, IL. He and Trudie were members of Saint Albert the Great in Fairview Heights, IL.
Herb loved watching football, whether it be college or professional. He also liked watching his "money shows," also known as the stock market on TV, which will be a source of great memories and laughter for the family for years to come.
Above all else, Herb cherished his family and especially his two grandchildren. His memory will live in their hearts forever, he will truly be missed.
A visitation for Herb will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 11:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral service will be held following the visitation, at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Robison officiating.
Final interment will following at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Il.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
