Helen Loretta Creson, 97, of Belleville, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023. She was born December 14, 1925 in Scopus, Missouri to Isaac Barks and Daisy Dockins. Helen married Forrest T. Creson December 31, 1944. They built a life together and resided in East St. Louis until 1971 when Forrest passed away. On February 11, 1959, she became a lifetime member of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. Helen was a Daughters of the Nile princess member and at Al Sihah Temple No. 29. In 1962, she was Queen of Daughters of the Nile. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Helen was very involved and active in the Red Bud Golden Hornets Drum Corp and the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corp, both founded by her husband, Forrest. She was the strength and backbone to the members. Her support, loyalty and many years of dedication will be remembered by many.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, Forrest S. (Joann) Creson Jr.; grandchildren, Christine A. (Jeff) Emig, Angela M. (Steve) Bernreuter and Nicole L. (Travis) Wheatley; great-grandchildren, Madison N. Emig, Claire M. Emig, Peyton L. Bernreuter and Lucas S. Bernreuter. Helen is preceded in death by her father, Isaac Barks; mother, Daisy L. Fisher; step-father, Glenn Fisher; husband, Forrest T. Creson; brother, Cletus L. Barks; special shih Tzu, Abby.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 1:30pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with visitation from 12:00pm until time of service. Private family inurnment in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
