Harry "Mike" A. Coon

Mike was an adventurous boy, being raised by his mother Luella and his grandmother, Ann, while surrounded by his uncles. Luella married Bill Ackerman when Mike was about 11 years old and although Bill was Mike’s step-father, he considered Bill his Dad.

Mike liked sports. He enjoyed boxing, but he loved softball and played on many Belleville city leagues.

During the course of these games, he met Alice Zellmer. Mike and Alice were married June 4, 1949 and shared 74 years together.

Mike played the clarinet and loved all music. He also played the bass tub and together with some friends, they would entertain customers at local bars.

Mike also enjoyed Western movies and was a big John Wayne fan, having watched every movie John Wayne made.

Above all else, Mike loved his family and was always there when someone needed his help. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike worked at Weeke Wholesale as a truck driver until becoming head buyer for the company. Later, he went to work at Belleville West High School in the boiler room and as a custodian, until his retirement.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Luella Koderhandt-Ackerman and step-father, Bill Ackerman; father, Harry Coon; grandmother, Ann Koderhandt; brother, Bob (Norma) Coon; daughter, Ruth Rensing; and grandsons, Scott Coon and Kevin Rohr.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Coon; sons, Mike (Margie) Coon and Tim (Debi) Coon; daughter, Amy (Russ Wright) Tucker; grandchildren, Jon (Terri) Foster, Dean Foster, Kelli (Jeff Wilson) Kane, Clayton Tucker, Amber (Chris) Beadle, Mikayla Wright and Megan Wright; great-grandchildren, Eva Coon, Aaron Kane, Brooke Wilson, Jefferie Martin Wilson, Ashlee (Craig) Whitaker, Mason Beadle, Allen (Mandy) Foster, Mark (Bethany) Foster, Sean Foster, Scotty Coon, Aden Coon; and numerous great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
